More power with 0 emissions - CARB Compliant Pressure Washers

Emissions from 1 hour of leaf blowing is roughly equal to driving a car 1,110 miles

Clearing the Air – Hotsy Leads the Industry

The California Air Resource Board (CARB) is leading the way in making smart choices for our environmental future. In a state with 16.7 million Small Off-Road Engines (SORE – think leaf blowers, lawn mowers and pressure washers) and 14 million+ cars, emissions matter. Recently signed legislation aims to ban the sale of non-compliant SOREs by 2028. As California goes, so goes the rest of the country. California has 1/8 of the US population and 14% of its gross domestic product. Several states have already started to move ahead with plans like California’s.

Hotsy has always put our customers first when it comes to safety and building the best tools to answer their needs. We feel that creating a better environment for work and life is both sensible and good for business. Hotsy is already producing pressure washers that exceed CARB standards and will help our customer navigate an emissions-free world where our pressure washers will be both powerful and great for the environment.

Which engines are subject to the SORE regulations?

The small off-road engine (SORE) category consists of off-road spark-ignition engines that produce 19 kilowatts gross power or less (25 horsepower or less), including lawn and garden, industrial, logging, airport ground support, and commercial utility equipment, golf carts, and specialty vehicles.

CARB approved a measure that requires most newly manufactured small off-road engines such as those found in leaf blowers, lawn mowers and other equipment be zero emission starting in 2024. Portable generators, including those in recreational vehicles, would be required to meet more stringent standards in 2024 and meet zero-emission standards starting in 2028.

Engines that use diesel fuel and engines that are used in stationary equipment, including standby generators, are not subject to the SORE regulations.

Hotsy Pressure Washers in Emission-Friendly Environments

According to the CARB website emission standards will tighten considerably by 2024 with a goal of zero-emission standards starting in 2028. All Hotsy gas pressure washers are affected by ty the 25 HP cap. We are currently making sure that our literature alerts you to what machines are CARB compliant and, if not, what alternative machine will be a suitable replacement. As of 2028 a pressure washer that fits in the SORE category must be zero-emissions. Right now these rules apply to California, but a growing number of states are adopting the standards which all but assures these standards will be national. California is offering incentives for the purchase of new zero-emission equipment.

Is Your Hotsy CARB Compliant?

Hotsy has worked for years to expand its line with machines that meet California regulations. All machines with Vanguard engines (Briggs & Stratton), Loncin (on Tetons) and some Honda engines are CARB Compliant. Of course, all electric powered Hotsy pressure washers are compliant.
